Men are unique beings and irrespective of colour, race, height and culture they all crave for respect especially from their loved ones. When a male is respected, his ego is boosted. This masculine ego is driven by recognition, attention and action and all these can be drawn or gotten when they are given due respect. More so, majority of men in the society are experiencing what I call gender role strain which is the stress and anxiety caused by inability to meet up with expectations.
However, this can
be corrected if every woman is ready to help her man by building up their
strength through love, support, care and respect.
What is Respect?
The word respect is
a Latin word called “respectus” which connotes attention, regard or
consideration and it is also a concept that refers to the ability to cherish,
value and honour another person, even if we do not concur, approve or share
everything he or she does.
Respect is so vital
in any healthy relationship because without it, interpersonal relationships
will be very difficult, it will be filled with quarrel, conflict and dissatisfaction.
Although our society
talks about gender equality in which everybody has equal right, but these have
ruined so many marriages and relationships today because many women see showing
respect to a man as slavery and they deem it fit to compete with their man.
However, showing
respect to the man we claim to love does not reduce or make us inferior. When we respect our men, it motivates them to
fulfill their obligations, duties and responsibilities. Also, it boosts their morale and makes them
to gain confidence that they need to measure up with our expectations and that
of the society. Other reasons why we
should respect our men includes:
i.
It motivates them
ii.
Respect shown to them acknowledges their qualities as
our man (husband) and father of our kids
iii.
It makes them to love us more and more
iv.
It makes them to strive to keep the family happy and
secure
v.
It makes us better women
vi.
It makes people to also respect them
vii.
It makes them provide emotional balancing for us
How then can we
show respect for our man?
1. Motivation: At
times, women unintentionally utter things that discourage, demotivate and disorientate
their men but masculine ego is most sensitive, delicate and can be touched easily
if the right techniques are used to motivate them. Every man out there needs words of motivation
and encouragement. So it is expected
that every woman, especially wives should affirm their man’s effort no matter
how small it is. Men can be motivated
without hurting their ego through the following:
i.
Appreciation: this can be done by:
a.
Nurturing your desire for him when you are together
b.
Supporting him
c.
Giving him attention
d.
Buying things for him
e.
Staring into his eyes and telling him how much you
love him
f.
Telling him how much you value what he is doing to
keep the home going
ii.
Compliment: this can be done by:
a.
Let him know that you believe in him
b.
Telling him how much you love his looks and physique
c.
Telling him things you love about his personality,
etc.
iii.
Asking for their guidance and opinion on matters.
2. Show
that you trust him: men really feel on top of the world when they see
that their women trust them. This boosts
their level of confidence and self esteem.
So, we should strive to show respect to our men by letting them know
that we trust and support their decision and visions.
3. Avoid
being pushy: Men cannot function effectively if there is too much
pressure on them. When they are under
stress and pressure, they become demoralize and worn out, so every woman must
be skeptical about this. We should avoid
being pushy but rather we should be supportive and help them out when they are
under pressure and tension.
Lastly, when a man
is respected he won’t retract himself from his woman and he will be ready to
sacrifice all to meet up with his woman’s expectations and this makes homes to
be a haven of peace and security.
Till I come your way
another time, thanks for reading.
