SUNDAY SERENITY
It's
a beautiful Sunday morning as Diekola and Layomi arrive at God's Tabernacle
International Church adorned in matching Flora Ankara print outfits. Diekola
wears an African cap to match. Due to Layomi's night shift, they attend the
second section of the church services. The church is painted with glossy, shiny
paint that enhances its beauty, and the interior decorations exude serenity.
The church ushers, composed of respected individuals, welcome newcomers at the
entrance.
Layomi
and Diekola are actively involved in the church, with Diekola serving in the
technical group and Layomi being part of the sanctuary beauty team. Pastor Dare
Ọla, a revered man of God, initiates the second service with a joyful welcome
and encourages the congregation to offer applause to the Lord. His wife,
Teniola, affectionately called "mama" by the members, is known for
her hospitality and willingness to learn.
The
choir, dressed in elegant robes, presents a touching rendition of Franklin
Kirk's song "It's Over Now." Following this, Pastor Dare delivers a
powerful sermon titled "The Storm Is Over," recounting the story of
Jesus calming the storm. Touched by the message, Layomi is moved to tears
during the prayer that follows. The approximately 45-minute service concludes
with a benediction, after which Layomi, Diekola, and the other attendees
exchange greetings with the Pastor, his wife, and fellow church members before
heading home.
ACTS OF COMPASSION
Nurse
Judith, frustrated by the state of the world, expressed her annoyance to Layomi
as they both stood in the gynaecology ward at Lebroth Hospital. Judith drew
Layomi's attention to a distraught mother outside whose daughter had given
birth to triplets without anyone to support her.
The
family couldn't afford the hospital bills, and Layomi, who was on duty, felt
deeply moved by their plight. Despite the hospital's policy of requiring a
deposit before treatment, Layomi approached Dr. Tayemise to explain the
situation and offered to cover the bill.
The
pregnant girl, only 17 years old, was in critical condition and urgently needed
medical attention. Dr. Tayemise promptly attended to her, and she underwent a
successful emergency Caesarian section, giving birth to three healthy baby
boys. Layomi's act of kindness covered the hospital expenses, although her
identity as the benefactor remained undisclosed.
As
the young woman and her newborns were discharged from the hospital, Layomi
questioned Judith's lamentation. Before Judith could reply, Dr. Lade, a
gynecologist, entered the scene.
UNEXPECTED NEWS AND ANTICIPATED CHANGES
"Babe,
something is fishy," Diekola said to his wife Layomi. It's a beautiful
Saturday morning, with the cool breeze dancing in the sky. Layomi had just used
a day out of her three days off from work. After a good meal and a little nap,
both of them decided to hang out, which has been a part of their routine on
Saturdays as a couple, especially whenever they are both at home.
"Baby,
are we having any party on the 16th? Oh! what's popping?" Layomi asked her
husband Diekola.
"Ah!
Babe, don't tell me that you have forgotten that you're supposed to see your
menstruation on the 14th of this month, or are you done with it?" Diekola
exclaimed in surprise to his wife Layomi, who was about to wear her short silk
gown.
Indeed,
both of them have been monitoring her menstruation days, especially her
ovulation period. Diekola had checked monthly on the fertility tracking app on
his phone to track his wife's ovulation and fertile days. However, after
checking for this month, he discovered that his wife has not had her
menstruation, which is quite unusual because ever since they got married, every
month had been a challenging month for them, especially for his wife, who cried
profusely whenever her monthly flow showed up.
"Oh
my God! Baby, you are right. I've been so preoccupied that I've even forgotten
that I haven't seen my monthly period for this month," Layomi exclaimed in
surprise and confusion to her husband Diekola.
"Babe,
you are not getting what I'm thinking. You are supposed to see your monthly
flow on the 14th, and today is the 16th," Diekola explained to Layomi.
"Baby,
you are quite right. What I'm confused about is that I've never missed that day
14. But at the same time, don't let me be in a hurry. I think I still have a
pregnancy test strip at home. Let me go and use it before we can conclude that
I'm already pregnant," Layomi said to her husband Diekola, who nodded in
agreement.
Just
as Diekola was about to follow his wife Layomi to their bathroom, his phone
rang. "Hello Diekola, where are you? I just received a call from the
hospital that daddy collapsed and he had been rushed to the hospital,"
Mofeoluwa, Diekola's sister, uttered out to him on the phone.
UNSPOKEN DESIRES
"Good
afternoon, ma. How's Daddy? And hope you're hearing from Diekola?" Lope greeted
Mrs. Adani Madele as she knelt down, accompanied by her two boys. Mrs. Adani
Madele praised Lope's appearance and engaged in a warm hug, inquiring about the
children.
Chief
Mrs. Ashley Lara, Lope's mother as a retired accountant, was celebrating her
60th birthday with a small gathering of close friends. Despite her children's
desire for a grand celebration, she chose a simpler event. Mrs. Adani Madele,
Diekola's mother and Mrs. Ashley's childhood friend, had organized and
supported the event, providing clothes, food and drinks.
Mrs.
Adani Madele had once expressed her wish for Lope and Diekola to become a
couple, jokingly suggesting a match between them. Although Mrs. Ashley
initially laughed off the idea, the concept persisted, and the two mothers decided
to play matchmakers. Lope had secretly admired Diekola, but her hopes were
crushed when he informed her that he only saw her as a sister. Despite her
mother's support for their relationship, Lope chose to move forward, letting go
of her feelings for Diekola.
Lope
introduced her children to Mrs. Adani Madele, who commented on their
handsomeness and mentioned that they could have been her grandsons had Diekola
listened. Lope was left speechless by the implication.
TWISTS OF FATE: NAVIGATING FAMILY TURMOIL
After
enjoying a lavish meal, Mr. Kolapo James Adani decided to stroll around the
expansive mansion's compound. As he was about to leave the sitting room, he
slipped and a maid, who was clearing his meal, rushed towards him in panic,
shouting for help. One of the family drivers, Kojọ, who happened to be nearby,
immediately came to their aid. Mr. Kolapo Adani was quickly taken to the family
hospital.
Meanwhile,
Mrs. Adani Madele, who had just been driven to the store in Gbagi, received a
call informing her about her husband's hospitalization. In a state of panic,
she tried to contact their first son, Diekola, who unfortunately had his phone
on silent. After several attempts, she reached out to Mofeoluwa, Diekola's sister.
As
Diekola's wife, Layomi, was taking a pregnancy test, Diekola contemplated
calling his friend, Benjamin, a medical doctor, to discuss the situation.
However,
he held off to await the result of Layomi's test. Just as Layomi was taking the
test, Diekola's phone screen lighted up, and he received a call from his
sister, who tearfully informed him that their father had been rushed to the
hospital. Shocked, Diekola shared the news with Layomi, and they hurriedly got
into their SUV and drove to Ibadan.
